History at RCCS PDF Print E-mail

History is an important part of the Curriculum at RCCS. A knowledge and understanding of history gives perspective to life. Indeed, all that occurs in the modern world has an historical background. In addition, the study of History provides an excellent context for developing a variety of skills. Children learn how to investigate issues thoroughly and how to present considered arguments. Furthermore, the teaching and learning of History encourages listening skills and consideration of others' opinions, values and circumstances.

History teaching at RCCS starts with these premises in mind. Teachers have a thorough belief in the importance and excitement of History, and a key goal is to communicate this to our pupils.

To enable children to achieve high standards of knowledge, understanding and skills in these areas, the following teaching and learning methods are used:

story telling including the use of powerpoint and film;
independent and guided use of the internet and interactive software;
use of artefacts and other source material;
field work and visitors to school;
written exercises from a range of text books (differentiated where necessary);
individual, paired and group work;
role plays, dramas and debates;

Through implementing these methods, our children enjoy History and achieve success  throughout their time at school.
