A report from the inter-generational sports: Where was Mr Capello? Inspite of glorious weather only a few members of the older generation took the opportunity to showcase their skills. Those of you who were missing from the football field will not be going to South Africa! Messrs Elvidge, Spackman and Smith rolled back the years in a demonstration of rare ability. Young Spackman relied on all of his experience and created a formidable barrier to the young marksmen by lying down in front of goal. Mr Smith proved to be a great dribbler and his no holds barred approach made a real impression on the boys (let’s hope they have recovered). The top keeper was undoubtedly Alex Broadley. Such was his skill that the Alice Page was not able to distribute all of the prizes available for shooting. Special mention to Hugh Hollins for winning the dirtiest kit award (also his uniform). Football was followed by tag rugby which was beyond your feeble correspondent who retired to the French cafe, but not before visiting Mrs Coram and Mrs Shanahan on the netball court who were showing the girls how they won county and national honours at netball. Lord Hope, distinguished guests, ladies, gentlemen and children I stand here today with very mixed emotions. Pleased to have completed the task set before me and yet very sad to leave new friends and the warm and vibrant community which is Ripon Cathedral Choir School – a school which I believe is on the brink of a very exciting future. |

Year 6 Maths Battle Twenty-one four-person teams from schools in North Yorkshire tested their mathematical prowess in the third annual Maths Challenge hosted by the Cathedral Choir School in Ripon. The event, organised as always by the School’s Deputy Head Mrs Karen Coram, featured tabletop challenges and a maths relay.

As you may be aware, last year the traditional pancake races in Ripon were cancelled for mainly due to necessary road closures, a bill for North Yorkshire Police presence and insurance issues. |
